UPCOMING

WINSTON IS BACK! and so is FDR

Our favorite FDR re-enactor, Warm Springs native Dr. Hal Raper will reprise his duo act with our own Bill Fisher next Friday evening in Toccoa GA at the Currahee Military Weekend.  They will be reflecting upon and reenacting some of their most famous moments in WW2.  Rosie the Riveter will be there as well. Wear 1940's attire if it still fits!

heads up on churchill birthday event luncheon at Horseshoe BEnd CC November 22 menu/time tbd

Atlanta filmmaker Bill Vanderkloot will tell the fascinating story of his father who was pilot of Churchill's B-24 "Commando"

Vanderkloot went to Montreal in 1941, before the bombing of Pearl Harbor and volunteered with the RAF Ferry Command to transfer long-range planes to Great Britain. He arrived in Scotland ferrying a B-24 and was asked by RAF Chief of Staff if there was safe, direct route from England to Cairo.  Vanderkloot said there was a way with one stop in Gibraltar. The next day Vanderkloot was taken to No. 10 Downing Street.   Churchill, clad in robe and slippers, offered him a drink, beginning a relationship that had Vanderkloot flying the Prime Minister on sensitive diplomatic trips across war-torn Europe, Russia, North Africa and the Middle East.

THIS IS AN ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING STORY NOT TO BE MISSED.
